Sucralfate 1 GM - Ulcers can be treated with Sucralfate 1GM and their recurrence can be prevented. Additional medications, such as antibiotics, may be needed to treat and prevent the spread of ulcers caused by certain types of bacteria. It adheres to injured ulcer tissue and provides protection from enzymes and acids so that healing can occur.

How should Sucralfate 1 GM  be used?

  • Sucralfate 1 gram is available in liquid and tablet form for oral consumption.
  • The liquid or tablet form of sucralfate is usually taken four times per day if it is being used to treat ulcers.
  • Sucralfate tablets are often taken twice a day if they are being used to prevent ulcers from coming back after they have healed.
  • Take sucralfate on an empty stomach, 2 hours after or 1 hour before a meal. Sucralfate should be taken at the same time every day.
  • Ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any directions on your prescription label that you are unsure about following.
  • Sucralfate 1 gm should be taken exactly as prescribed.
  • Never take it in more or less quantity or more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Side effects of  Sucralfate 1 GM

Sucralfate can cause many side effects, some of which can be serious. If any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away, tell your doctor. If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately or get emergency medical treatment:

  • Constipation
  • hives
  • rash
  • Itching
  • difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • swelling of the face, throat, tongue, or lips

Sucralfate 1 GM may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while taking this medicine.

Precautions for Sucralfate 1 GM

Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have any allergies before taking sucralfate, in addition to any other allergies you may have. Kidney function decreases with age. This medicine contains aluminum, which is normally eliminated by your kidneys. Elderly individuals may be more susceptible to developing excessive aluminum levels when this drug is taken with other items that contain aluminum.
